Boy Scout Troop 10 of Medfield, MA
Welcome to the Troop 10 web site! Here you can access who is a member on our Member list. Also check out some of the pictures from our camp outs. You must also check about the events that are coming up on the Calendar.
Where and When to meet: Our sponsor is The United Church of Christ, located at 496 Main Street. Troop meetings are generally held every Tuesday, except the first Tuesday of the month, from 7:00-8:30 P.M. Troop meetings are not held during the months of July, and August.
Trips and Summer Camp: Troop 10 schedules approximately 6 camping trips per year. Most, but not all, are local. There is an annual ski trip in January. Day trips are scheduled for advancement work, service projects, and for fun! Annual summer camp is in July at camp Squanto in Plymouth, MA. The Flight to eagle program at summer camp is an excellent way to complete many requirements for the rank of scout, Tenderfoot, Second class, and First class. New Boy Scouts must contact the scout master after crossover to be included in summer camp registration. Also this summer a select few Boy Scouts will be traveling to the National Jamboree in Virginia. See you there!
Service Projects: Service projects are scheduled throughout the year. Recent service projects have included repairs at the United Church of Christ, and Medfield spring clean up. Upcoming projects include tree planting for Medfield 350th celebration, and nature trail clearing at Noon Hill. Troop 10 also participates in the scouting for food program.
Court of Honor: The court of honor ceremony is held approximately 3 times a year. During the ceremony the scouts receive rank badges, merit badges, and other recognition awards. The Eagle court of honor is a very special occasion held when a scout reaches the rank of Eagle. All troop members and families are invited to attend Court of Honor ceremonies.
Fundraisers: Fundraisers help the troop purchase new equipment and defray the costs of troop trips. Our biggest fundraiser is the Christmas wreath sale in November and December. Also, fundraising is held during our Medfield day booth annually in September. Scouts and families are expected to participate in fundraising.
Parental Involvement: Parents are needed at all scouting events. These events can not take place with out parental supervision. The quality of the scouting program is directly governed by the amount of parental support.
Uniforms and Equipment: Troop 10 requires the Boy scout class A khaki shirt, scout pants or shorts (you can wear green pants or shorts too), and scout belt for all meetings and events except backing. The troop provides the neckerchiefs, slide, council patch, troop numerals, red epilets, brotherhood patch, and Scout hand book. Class B uniform is required for summer camp. Class B can be purchased through the troop. Class B includes the class B shirt, green shorts, scout belt, and scout socks. Equipment needed for camping: sleeping bag, frame pack/ duffel bag ( Frame packs are highly recommended), messkit, silverware, hot/cold cup, canteen/waterbottle, pocket knife, hiking boots, rain gear, and weather appropriate clothing.
Membership dues: The dues for membership are currently forty dollars per year. Collection of membership dues is annually in the fall.
